JAPANESE SEITAI, EXPLAINED

A Japanese approach.
Care for the whole body.

Seitai is a Japanese term used for hands-on approaches to body balance. At HACHIGA Method Seitai in London, Chie considers muscles, joints, posture and movement together, rather than looking at one uncomfortable area in isolation.

Looking for Japanese massage in London?

Japanese massage and Seitai can share hands-on techniques. HACHIGA Method Seitai combines attentive manual bodywork with an individual assessment of your discomfort and movement. Tell Chie what you are looking for so your session can be adapted to you.

YOUR GUIDE / JAPANESE SEITAI

Care that considers
the whole picture.

Seitai (整体) is Japanese bodywork that considers muscles, bones, joints and nerves alongside posture and movement. HACHIGA Method Seitai aims to address pain and physical discomfort through a whole-body perspective, with techniques informed by anatomy and biomechanics.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Consultation about your concerns and health history
  • Assessment of posture, movement and muscular tension
  • Precise techniques for soft tissues, spine and pelvis

YOUR GUIDE / JAPANESE MASSAGE

More personal.
Less force.

Looking for Japanese massage in London? HACHIGA Method Seitai shares some hands-on techniques with massage, but its focus goes beyond relaxation to your pain and physical concerns. Care considers the relationships between muscles, joints and nerves, rather than only the area that feels uncomfortable.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of pain, stiffness and daily movement
  • Gentle, precise techniques adapted to your sensitivity
  • Whole-body care, with pressure adjusted to your comfort

YOUR GUIDE / NECK & SHOULDERS

Space to ease
the everyday tension.

For neck pain after sleeping awkwardly, persistent shoulder tension or difficulty lifting your arm. Chie considers shoulder-blade, ribcage and spinal movement alongside the surrounding muscles. If you have a diagnosed shoulder or nerve-related condition, contact her before booking to discuss suitability.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • A conversation about pain and movements that feel limited
  • Attention to the neck, shoulder blades and upper back
  • Techniques adapted to nerve sensitivity and comfort

YOUR GUIDE / POSTURE & MOVEMENT

A closer look at
how you move.

If sitting, standing or walking leaves you uncomfortable, your session can explore posture, muscular balance and ease of movement. Chie considers how the neck, spine, pelvis and hips work together, with attention to your usual working positions and walking patterns.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of daily positions and activities
  • Observation of posture, walking and comfortable movement
  • Personalised care for connected areas of stiffness

YOUR GUIDE / HEAD, FACE & JAW

Gentle attention
to smaller details.

For jaw fatigue from clenching, head and scalp tension, or neck and shoulder tension accompanying headaches. You can also discuss facial asymmetry or contouring concerns. Delicate techniques consider the head, face and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), alongside the neck and posture.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of jaw, facial and headache-related concerns
  • Gentle techniques for muscles around the face and TMJ
  • Contact before booking if you have a diagnosed condition

YOUR GUIDE / BACK, HIPS & PELVIS

Connected care.
Considered movement.

For recurring lower-back pain, stiffness after sitting or discomfort around the back and pelvis. Chie considers hip and spinal movement, posture and walking patterns, rather than the lower back alone. Tell her about any diagnosed spinal condition, sciatica, numbness or recent sudden pain before arranging care.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of your symptoms and relevant health history
  • Observation of comfortable back and hip movement
  • Gentle soft tissue, spinal and pelvic techniques

YOUR GUIDE / FATIGUE & STIFFNESS

Rest for a body
that feels heavy.

For persistent physical fatigue, whole-body tension or stiffness that lingers despite rest. Chie considers muscular tension, joint movement and your individual circumstances, with gentle bodywork aimed at easing accompanying stiffness and encouraging more comfortable movement.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • A conversation about physical demands and daily habits
  • Careful observation of muscular tension and movement
  • Gentle, personalised whole-body techniques

YOUR GUIDE / REST & RELAXATION

A little more ease.
Room to unwind.

If you find it difficult to fall asleep, wake in the night or feel unrefreshed, you can discuss accompanying physical tension with Chie. Gentle bodywork can focus on the neck, shoulders, back, head and jaw. Sessions address physical tension and discomfort; they do not treat insomnia itself.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of your rest and accompanying tension
  • Gentle care around the head, jaw, neck and back
  • An unhurried session, with 120 minutes also available

YOUR GUIDE / WOMEN’S LIFE STAGES

Care that changes
with your needs.

Period pain, PMS and menopause can be accompanied by lower-back heaviness, shoulder tension or fatigue. Your session takes account of how you feel that day, with gentle attention to accompanying muscular stiffness around the abdomen, back and pelvis where appropriate. This is supportive bodywork, not treatment for hormonal or gynaecological conditions.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • A conversation about symptoms and changes in comfort
  • Gentle techniques adapted to your condition on the day
  • Contact before booking pregnancy or postnatal care

YOUR GUIDE / BRIDAL SEITAI

Feel like yourself.
Ready for your day.

Created by Chie Hachiga, Bridal Seitai is personalised bodywork with attention to posture, body balance and overall appearance ahead of your wedding. Discuss your goals, any physical discomfort and your schedule so that care can be tailored to your circumstances.

WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Discussion of your wedding plans and personal goals
  • Attention to posture, shoulders, back and body balance
  • Head, face and jaw techniques where appropriate

Seitai is complementary bodywork. It does not replace medical assessment, diagnosis or treatment. If symptoms are persistent, unexplained or worsening, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.

THE HACHIGA METHOD

Precision over pressure.
You, at the centre.

HACHIGA Method Seitai places pain and physical discomfort at the centre of your care. Japanese manual bodywork principles, anatomy and biomechanics guide precise techniques rather than unnecessarily strong pressure.

01

Listen first.

We begin with your concerns, health history and preferences. Your session is shaped around how you feel that day.

02

Look beyond one area.

Care considers soft tissues throughout the body, the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, and the pelvis, alongside posture and walking patterns.

03

Work with your comfort.

Techniques take nerve mobility, sensitivity and joint movement into account. Head, face and jaw work may be included where appropriate, always with attention to comfort.

What is Japanese Seitai?

Seitai is a Japanese term for approaches to body balance and hands-on bodywork. HACHIGA Method Seitai considers muscles, joints, posture and movement together, with techniques adapted to your comfort.

Is Seitai the same as massage?

HACHIGA Method Seitai and Japanese massage share some hands-on techniques. While relaxation-focused massage mainly helps you unwind, this method places greater emphasis on pain and physical discomfort. It considers muscles, joints, nerves and posture together, using a whole-body approach. It is complementary bodywork, not medical treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

Chie’s approach emphasises controlled, precise techniques rather than unnecessarily strong pressure. Tell her if anything feels uncomfortable so the treatment can be adapted.

How long should I book for my first visit?

For your first visit, Chie recommends a 90-minute session for consultation, assessment and whole-body treatment. A 120-minute appointment allows a more thorough, unhurried session. A 60-minute session is available for focused care. All three sessions are available at Kiyora.

Do I need to speak Japanese?

No. Chie offers consultations in English and Japanese. You can also email info.hachiga@gmail.com.

Where can I book Japanese Seitai in London?

Book HACHIGA Method Seitai at Kiyora Beauty & Health, 97 Old Brompton Road, South Kensington, London SW7 3LD. The entrance faces Cranley Place. Choose your session above to open Kiyora’s live booking calendar.

What other concerns can I discuss?

Neck, shoulders & back
Neck pain after sleeping awkwardly, neck and shoulder tension, reduced cervical curvature (“straight neck”), back pain, frozen shoulder and thoracic outlet syndrome.

Lower back, pelvis & legs
Lower-back pain including sudden episodes, excessive lower-back arch, spondylolisthesis, lumbar disc herniation, sciatica, and numbness or tingling in the legs or feet.

Head, face & jaw
Headaches and migraines, eye strain, tinnitus, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), head and scalp tension, facial asymmetry and contouring concerns.

Posture & nerve-related concerns
Rounded shoulders, cervical disc herniation, numbness or tingling in the hands, and concerns described as autonomic nervous system dysfunction.

Women’s life stages
Period pain and PMS, menopause-related discomfort, pregnancy and postnatal bodywork, care around the pelvis, and Bridal Seitai.

These are concerns you can discuss, not conditions this service claims to treat. Suitability depends on your symptoms, medical history and preferences. Please contact Chie before booking if you have a diagnosed condition, are pregnant or have recently given birth. Medical assessment may be recommended before proceeding.

Discuss suitability before booking ↗
Is Seitai chiropractic treatment?

No. Seitai is a broad Japanese term for bodywork, not a regulated chiropractic qualification. Chiropractic is a separately regulated profession in the UK. HACHIGA Method Seitai is offered as Japanese bodywork.

Can Seitai treat a medical condition?

Seitai is complementary bodywork, not medical diagnosis or treatment. Individual experiences vary, and no particular outcome is guaranteed. Please have persistent, unexplained or worsening symptoms assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
